It’s official, guys. Zendaya won the__ Camp: Notes on Fashionthemed Met Gala, making all our dreams come true in a Disney princess arrival which would upstage even royalty. The Greatest Showman actress wowed as Cinderella in a cartoon inspired blue gown (designed by Tommy Hilfiger) with her hair scraped behind a blue hairband, complete with matching eyeshadow.
But simply looking magnificent evidently wasn’t enough for the star – as forget Lady Gaga and her four outfit changes, Zendaya had the most magical entrance of all.
The most spellbinding moment of the gala happened with a swish of a magic wand, when Zendaya's stylist Law Roach, dressed as Cinderella's fairy godmother, cast a spell to make her frock light up. And as if that wasn’t magical enough, Zendaya then proceeded to leave one designer glass slipper on the stairs.
Following her arrival, the internet promptly went into meltdown. ‘SHE REALLY LEFT HER GLASS SLIPPERS OH MY GOD I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT ZENDAYA,’ one fan tweeted. But somebody else summed up her entrance perfectly, writing, ‘Zendaya left a glass slipper on the stairs. this is not an outfit, this is a PERFORMANCE.’
Later in the evening, she shared a video of the (incomplete) dress on Twitter, thanking her dress makers by writing, ‘Underneath the magic. Thank you to all the very very smart people who somehow built and made this dress work.’ She also uploaded some photos of the dress in various stages of production, looking more like the back of a computer than a designer gown.
But nobody is surprised by how amazing Zendaya’s act was. Last year, she rocked up for the theme of Fashion and the Catholic Imagination in a full suit of armour, inspired by Joan of Arc. Well, she better get planning next year’s look soon – she certainly has a lot to live up to!
