It’s a sad day for genetically blessed couples the world over: Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid have reportedly broken up after more than two years together, according to The Sun.
The pair started dating at the end of 2015, following Zayn’s departure from One Direction and split from former fiancée Perrie Edwards, eventually confirming their relationship in the most dramatic way possible: with Gigi starring in the video for Zayn’s first solo single, Pillowtalk. It’s thought that the couple, who were previously rumoured to be engaged, drifted apart due to work pressures and conflicting schedules.
Last night, a source revealed to the newspaper that the pair ‘have separated.’
They are no longer a couple but they do remain close and are supportive of each other. The reality is that they’ve grown apart, having been together for a long time. They have crazy work schedules that would put pressure on any relationship,’ they said, adding that while a reconciliation wouldn’t be impossible, it certainly won’t happen any time soon.
‘This is definitely the end for now, but this isn’t a bitter split and they both have respect for each other,’ they added. ‘It’s a mutual decision so no one has completely ruled out a reunion in the future, but for now that’s not where their heads are at.’
Discussing the pitfalls of navigating a relationship in the public eye in an interview last September, Zayn revealed ‘I just concentrate on my relationship and try to do right by my girlfriend and she does by me, and we hope for the best, as we all do.'
