Since leaving One Direction to pursue a life as a ‘normal 22-year-old’, Zayn Malik has gone and recorded some music. Not just with anyone, but with Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange producer James ‘Malay’ Ho.
Here’s a video of him brooding about it, with his gorgeous beardy face and skinny knees pretending to ride a motorbike and that lovely mouth mumbling about recording an album in the woods:
The music sounds a little bit like The xx mixed with some sirens but Zayn insists that we cannot expect what on earth comes next:
‘I don’t feel like people really know what I’m going to give them, musically,’ he told The Fader.
‘And once they hear it, I feel like they will understand me a little bit more, and they’ll understand why I did what I did, and why I left the band, and why I had to write this shit down. Because for five—not even for five years, for ten years, this album has been in my brain, and it’s just been there, sat with me, needing to be out’
It’s absolutely no coincidence, then, that the song he’s given a preview snippet is called Befour, as in ‘you go and be four people, One Direction, and I’ll be just like I was before.’
