Winter Love Island is finally over, after the British couple crowed their winners last night (and no, it wasn’t Maya Jama.)
But with the official voting stats finally released, there’s some surprising results about just how much support our other finalists received…
With an impressive 44% of votes, fan favourites Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan were no doubt the rightful winners, with runners up Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins just behind with 30%.
Finishing in third was Tom Clare and Samie Elishi, who bagged themselves 24% of the public vote.
But, despite the love online, it seems not everyone has forgiven this year’s Casa Amor antics – with fourth place’s Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga receiving a rather limp 2% of votes.
The shocking result is even more surprising given the pair – who coupled up on day one of the show – were once fan favourites, with Shaq winning over viewers after calling out his fellow boys for their toxic behaviour.
But the couple had viewers shouting at their screens following Tanya’s decision to bring Martin back from Casa Amor, despite professing their love for each other in week three. The move left many, including Shaq’s family, less than impressed – with last night’s results hinting that their bust up isn’t quite brushed under the carpet in the eyes of the public.
Reacting to the results, one user tweeted ‘If Tanya didn’t do all of that in Casa Amor, she and Shaq could have easily won.’
Another added, ‘Shaq and Tanya were giving bitter lol, and that’s why they came dead last.’
But amongst the many memes and jokes about the show, one fan reminded Twitter users to be kind – writing ‘It’s time to start listening to people who personally know Shaq and Tanya and not go off a highly edited show that’s trying to push a certain narrative.’
So, that’s it. Love Island is finally over – but you’ll only have to wait a few months for your next villa fix.
And with applications already open, you might even find yourself causing some onscreen drama next year. Is it summer yet?...
