Justin Bieber’s pretty much considered a complete douchebag these days, for almost too many reasons to mention. Let’s see, egging his neighbour’s house in LA, hitting a limo driver in Canada, drag-racing in Miami and most recently, calling Orlando Bloom a bitch in Ibiza, which apparently earned him a serious dressing down from Kate Moss.
It looks like Bieber’s been feeling the heat, or at least his PR people have, as his most recent Instagram features a screenshot of him chatting to Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban for daring to stand up for women’s rights to an education.
Biebs posted the shot to Instagram, captioning it: ‘Just got to FaceTime with Malala Yousafzai. She has such an incredible story. I can’t wait to meet her in person and talk about how I can support her and the @malalafund. #love’
While one part of us knows it’s a strategic move on Bieber’s part to redeem his diminishing popularity, we are also very aware that this might be the first time many of his 19 million Instagram followers have heard of Malala, so on that level it’s a positive for her and her cause. That much we are pleased about.
However, it’s one thing to post a picture, but it will take a little more than that to get people to believe you’re not a total tool, Biebs.
