In recent weeks, US viewers have been shocked and appalled watching new documentary Allen v. Farrow. Now, it's coming to the UK, and is sure to have the same impact. The four part series looks back on the beginnings of one of the ugliest feuds in Hollywood history. But sometimes it's difficult to work out the truth from the headlines and find the facts amid the allegations. So what is the documentary all about?

Allen v. Farrow, made by award-winning investigative filmmakers Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering and Amy Herdy, looks at an historic accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen - the director of films like Annie Hall and Blue Jasmine - involving Dylan, his daughter with Mia Farrow. Dylan was seven years old at the time.

The claims led to the end of the relationship and, then, a lengthy custody trial. The documentary also looks at Woody's relationship with Soon-Yi, Mia's daughter, and the controversies that resulted when he announced that he had found love with a woman who the world had considered to be his daughter in all but blood. Woody has always denied the accusation of sexual assault against Dylan, and many of his A-List friends and collaborators have remained loyal to him.

The documentary uses family home movie footage, police evidence and audio tapes recorded by Mia to piece together a new investigation. Mia, Dylan, Ronan Farrow, family friend Carly Simon, prosecutor Frank Maco are among those interviewed.

'We felt it was a story that the public thought they knew, but they really did not,' Amy Ziering, co-director, told Sky News. 'The Woody Allen case was the most public case to ever look at a private alleged case of incest in our country's history. And the way that our country interpreted it and reacted to it was incredibly seminal and formative to the way in which America to this day views incest cases, and more often than not sends children back to the homes of their abusers. So that's why we thought this is important.'

Woody and Soon-Yi released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter following the US debut. 'These documentarians had no interest in the truth,' their official statement read. 'Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their enablers to put together a hatchet job riddled with falsehoods. Woody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and given only a matter of days "to respond". Of course, they declined to do so.'
