We all know about Lupita and J-Law, but what about everyone else? Here's some women you probably haven't heard of who are all being recognised by this weekend's Oscars.
Megan Ellison
What do you do if you’re heir to a $40 billion fortune? If it were us we’d kick our feet up, order a martini and while our days away by the pool. But not Megan Ellison. Daughter of Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, she’s produced two best picture nominees this year – Her and American Hustle. Oh BTW she’s only 28.
Catherine Martin
Even if you don’t know the name, you’re already familiar with Catherine Martin’s work. As Baz Luhrman’s wife, her work on the sets and costumes of Strictly Ballroom and Moulin Rouge are infamous for their distinctive style and pop culture appeal (remember how much you wanted a corset? Ahh 2001). This year she’s up for 2 awards; one for production design and one for costume design for The Great Gatsby.
Patricia Norris
Another nominee for costume design, Patricia is the 82-year-old with 6 Oscar nominations under her belt over a 50 year period. This year, it’s her work on 12 Years A Slave that’s got her noticed. When dressing the characters as slaves, Particia went for clothes that were 20-30 years out of date to account for the fact that all of their clothing would have been castoffs.

This inspiring doc tells the story of the women who shared the stage with some of the music world’s biggest artists whose voices contributed to some of the greatest performances of all time but who remain relatively unknown. Tissues at the ready for Darlene Love’s emotional induction into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame scene.
Sara Ishaq
This Yemeni-Scottish filmmaker is behind Karama Has No Walls – nominated for best Documentary Short. This powerful film tells of the vicious attack the Yemeni government unleashed on it’s own people during the Arab Spring by talking to survivors and families of those that lost their lives.
**Adruitha Lee **

Nominated at The Oscars for her sterling work on Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey’s hair in Dallas Buyers Club, Adruitha started off her career working Melissa Joan Hart’s hair in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. No word on whether she also coiffed Salem.
Karen O
One of our favourite ladies ever. The lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's is no stranger to writing songs for film having penned All is Love for 2009’s Where The Wild Things Are. This year, she’s been nominated for Spike Jonze’s subsequent film Her for Moon Song. Expect a delightfully bonkers red carpet outfit.
Noriko Shinohara
One half of the artist couple who make for the focus of Zachary Heinzerling’s documentary Cutie and the Boxer. Noriko gave up her career to help her husband further his, and now, as his winds down, hers is suddenly picking up. Zachary told us to expect her to wear, ‘a really funky interesting dress that’ll make for something to look at the red carpet.’
