It really felt as though there was not a single soul left who hadn’t fallen for the Valencia-tint charms of Instagram. Hey, even social media-dodging Becks finally signed up, and Caitlyn Jenner already had her own new profile within hours of the Vanity Fair reveal.
That was until yesterday, when Hillary Clinton created her very own account on the most hipster of apps. She describes herself rather modestly as a: ‘Doting grandmother, among other things’. Those other non-domestic roles being none other than a 2016 US presidential hopeful.
Within an hour, the former First Lady to Bill had 10k followers, and at the time of writing, the total had shot to 77.7k. That’s way more than Angela Merkel’s 43.2k and Ed Miliband’s 15.2k (yes, we had no idea they were both on Insta either).
Hillary’s first post was obviously gold. The dedicated fan of the primary-coloured trouser suits gave us an insight into her daily wardrobe dilemma with an #OOTD.
It was captioned with a tongue-in-cheek ‘Hard choices’, which is also the name of her recent book.
In another snap, the former US Secretary of State borrowed from Jay-Z to announce the three-day countdown to her official campaign launch.
With 44 per cent of 18 to 29-year-olds on Instagram, it seems Hillary is taking steps to reach young voters. Apart from being totally amazed that @hillaryclinton remained unspoken for until now, we have our fingers crossed for a fab #TBT with Bill at the White House.
