In recent months, Steph has appeared more and more on Kim's elder sister Kourtney Kardashian's Instagram feed, with their new friendship addressed in a recent episode of their TV series Keeping Up With The Kardashians. In it, Kim relates how Kourtney and Steph bonded when Kourtney split with Scott Disick, having previously disliked each other. Friendship set up, later in the episode, Kourtney reveals that Steph is feeling unfulfilled in her job as Kim's personal assistant, something that irks her. 'I mean, don't you think that's just, like, a little bit unprofessional?' she says. 'That's like a convo she should have with me.'

No doubt following on from the scenes filmed for KUWTK, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Stephanie got promoted earlier this year, moving up from executive assistant to the rather inflated title of chief operating officer, with her new responsibilities reportedly included running the Kimoji app. But according to Us Weekly sources, the transition hasn't gone down so well, and Kim had to fire Steph because she wasn't doing her job very well. 'Kim made a decision to let Steph go,' the source reveals. 'She was a good assistant but when Stephanie wanted to transition into a larger role with Kim's brand and businesses, it just didn't work. Kim gave her the chance but after a short period of time it became clear that Steph just didn't have the knowledge to take on a role like that. Kim made an executive decision to part ways.'

During their four-year working relationship, Kim and Steph became increasingly close, with their bond profiled on Instagram. Steph even started appearing in the show more frequently, with her own storylines, and apparently, Kim started to become uncomfortable with it. 'Steph was very friendly with Kim's family, she was almost part of the family,' a source told People. 'Kim needed an assistant where the relationship is more professional. It's very difficult to work with friends, so Kim decided to hire someone else. The bottom line is that Steph was hired as an assistant, and Kim wanted to keep it like that. They are not friends now.'

Back in May, Steph was profiled for Refinery29's series The Plus One, in which she revealed 'a day in the life' of Kim Kardashian's assistant. While she didn't say anything defamatory or negative about her boss, she was very open, discussing everything from how Kim felt after the Paris robbery to what kind of Christmas gifts Kanye West gives. According to Us Weekly 'it left a bad taste in Kim's mouth'.

After news broke that Steph has been fired by Kim because she wasn't good at her job, a source close to her hit back, setting the record straight to Radar Online: 'She was tired of being treated like she was beneath Kim and she could never do anything for herself because Kim would beg her to stay and work for days on end. Steph asked for a raise, but Kim said no.'
