While many of us have put our face masks away post-COVID, Kylie Jenner is still rocking hers. The model has been seen wearing a black face covering when she’s out and about on the new pictures of her and boyfriend Timothee Chalamet leaving a private plane together after a trip to the Bahamas to celebrate Kylie’s 27th birthday. The couple were also both seen donning masks when they were pictured out on a date in Hollywood in July.
While there was speculation that her mask wearing was about controlling paparazzi photos, Kylie has now revealed the real reason: she wears it for privacy reasons so she can go about her business in peace.
‘There’s an angle that you can do where they can’t see your face, and I wear a mask,’ she told Vogue UK. ‘I haven’t had one person notice me. I’ve been really able to get around.’
There had been rumours that she didn’t want photographers to take pictures of her face, following an unflattering photo taken of the mum-of-two at Paris Fashion Week in January, where she had decided to wear minimal make-up.
‘I’m wearing too much make-up and it’s like, “You’re wearing too much make-up”. Then I go and I don’t wear a lot of make-up and someone catches me in a weird light,’ she said on a recent episode of The Kardashians.
Kylie has spoken out about her unhappiness with facial treatments such as fillers. ‘It’s like a miracle that I still have confidence and I can still look in the mirror and think that I am pretty,’ she told her sister Kendall, crying. ‘I just hear nasty things about myself all the time. It just gets exhausting.’
Kendall tried to provide some assurance to her little sister, saying, ‘I think that’s a general thing with our family. We’re dehumanised. They don’t think that there’s any rules with us. Whereas like, if you talked the same way you do about us about any other woman, people would come to their defence all day long. But for some reason with us, it’s like they don’t think we have any feelings.’
Kylie – who has daughter Stormi, six, and two-year-old son Aire with rapper Travis Scott – had her lip fillers dissolved in 2023, after growing unhappy with them. ‘I went on a journey last year dissolving half of my lip filler. I hate even having this conversation over and over and over again,’ she said. ‘It feels like it’s a waste of my breath because I think, with me, it is never going to change.’
The star spent years denying that she had altered her looks, claiming that her full lips were the result of clever make-up tricks, when she then used to sell her Kylie Cosmetics range of products. She finally admitted to having lip filler in 2019.
‘People think I full went under the knife and completely reconstructed my face, which is completely false. I’m terrified!’ she said then. ‘I would never. They don’t understand what good hair and make-up and, like fillers, can really do. It’s fillers. I’m not denying that.’
