Rumours are swirling that the self-defined party-girl and pop culture juggernaut has tied the knot with her fiancé George Daniel. But who is he, and when did they get together? Here is everything you need to know...
Who is George Daniel?
George Daniel is 34-years-old and was born in 1990. He's a British drummer, musician and producer best known for being in the 1975 with Matty Healy. The artist was born in Brussels, Belgium, but grew up in Seattle, in the US.
He told Coup de Main that one of his first musical influences was Fleetwood Mac. He began playing the drums at school, before doing music production at college.
He joined the 1975 in 2002, replacing Matty as the drummer after he was promoted to lead singer.
Since then he's collaborated with several high-profile artists, including Grammy-winning producer Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift.
When did he and Charli get together?
The couple are said to have first met while working on the No Rome song 'Spinning', released in 2021, and they worked together again on her album Crash, released in 2022.
Charli XCX announced her relationship with Daniel in May 2022, and sung about him on her album Brat, specifically on 'Talk Talk'. On that album he produced 'In the City', 'Club Classics' and 'Apple'.
In November 2023, she announced their engagement, sharing an Instagram image of her ring in a now deleted post and the caption: 'Charli xcx and george daniel fucking for life!!!'
Daniel later went viral online after he refused to take part in the TikTok Apple's dance that was created in honour of Charli XCX's song. He eventually gave in on the opening date of her Brat tour.
What has Charli XCX said about him?
The pair have been extremely supportive of one another. Charli XCX told The Sun in 2023, 'Now that I’m in a relationship with another musician he’s influenced me a lot with his process and how he and his band work.' She added, 'It’s really different to how I work and that has definitely influenced me and my process.'
That same year Charli wrote on X, 'My boyfriend is really hot AND he’s a great producer!' She added, 'Who says men can’t multitask???'
Fans also know George from the many TikToks Charli posts with him.
Charli opens up about their relationship on her album Brat. On the song 'Talk Talk' she shares how they were texting during the NME Awards but hadn't spoken in person.
'We were at the NME Awards, we were both sat on different tables, and we were like texting each other, but we weren’t hanging out,' said on TikTok. 'But we were both looking over at each other — it was very like, one of us would look, and the other one would look away, and then just vice versa.'
'You know, when you just feel like someone is watching you, you can feel a hole burning in the back of your head or something like that. It was very much that moment.'
On the song 'Club classics', which he produced, Charli says, 'I wanna dance with George, I wanna dance to SOPHIE'.
