It’s being reported that the royal family was so worried aboutthe Prince Charles portrayal in The Crown that aides apparently prevented stars of the Netflix show from attending an event. The Sun is reporting that staff who work for the Prince of Wales restricted invites to the show’s stars — including Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Colman — to an event attended by Charles, William and Harry{
The event in question was the premiere for David Attenborough{
A source told the paper, ‘The next few seasons are going to be increasingly focussed on the Prince of Wales’ behaviour, especially around his marriage to Diana and affair with Camilla. ... His staff made it clear he wouldn’t attend the event if Netflix had any The Crown actors there.’
A senior Buckingham Palace staffer confirmed to the paper that it was decided to exclude the show’s actors from the event — though they added that Prince Charles wasn’t involved in the decision making.
The courtier said, ‘It was discussed by all the relevant Households and event organisers and agreed that it was hard to see the relevance of attendance by The Crown cast and would be a distraction to the ultimate messages of Our Planet.... The decision was not one at the request of, instruction of, or direction of any of the members of the Royal Family.’
The courtier also said that Olivia Colman would soon be at the palace to receive her CBE.
Buckingham Palace said, ‘The guest list was decided jointly. It is wrong to assert that the Prince of Wales intervened personally.'
