Playing in front of 50,000 people isn’t scary once you get going
‘Before going onstage, you get a little bit nervous. If you don’t feel those nerves, I’m like, “Oh my gosh, what’s going to happen?” It’s not a nice feeling, but I’ve got used to it and I kind of like it now, if that makes sense. Your stomach turns upside down, you get butterflies and then as soon as you go onstage it’s just gone, and it’s just like, “Oh my gosh I’m here living my dream.” It’s amazing.
The toilets are rubbish backstage as well
‘We had to go onstage before a festival slot and I was like, “No, no I really need the toilet.” So we had to jump into one of these little cubicle toilets – oh my gosh, it stunk so bad, there was toilet paper everywhere, and I was, like, ugh!
You probably won’t meet your future celebrity husband backstage
‘I was hoping to bump into Bruno Mars at Wireless, but I couldn’t see him. I’m going to marry Bruno Mars – I love him. I wanted to bump into him, but our dressing room was right next J Cole’s and my brother ended up hanging out with him. I was like, “Excuse me?!”’
Playing football before your set is a terrible idea
‘At Isle of Wight we decided to play a game of football – Neon Jungle vs The Vamps. And we won 5-0! I was like, “Hahaha! 5-0 5-0! Oh my gosh, we’ve got to go on stage soon!” I ran back to the dressing room and saw my face and I was like, “Oh my God!” And I was trying to cool myself down and I was putting make up on, but I was all blotchy and stuff.’
There’s no rivalry between bands
‘It’s just not like that. Everyone’ll be like, “What time are you onstage?” And you’ll tell them and they’ll be like, “Oh we’ll come and watch you.” It’s so nice – it’s like if you meet someone for the first time and there’s an instant friendliness. Rizzle Kicks will just be chilling and you’ll just go and sit next to them and be like, “Hey!’”and they’ll be like, “Hiya!”’
Wearing appropriate clothing is probably a good idea
‘Jess always wears this little bustier and she always says, “Girls, please don’t let me wear this onstage.” Then she always wears it anyway, and when she’s bouncing up and down her boobs come out! There’s been a few wardrobe malfunctions that have happened onstage – I’ve been onstage in a skirt, and one time I forgot to put my shorts on, and I had a luminous thong on and my hand got caught in my skirt and flipped it up. It was so bad! So yeah, Neon Jungle flash a lot onstage.
If you’re not sure what to pack, get lip balm and a skort
Wear a skort, because if you’re going to be jumping or you’re going to be on people’s backs or whatever it is you don’t want to be flashing like Neon Jungle! So yeah, always bring a skort or shorts. I always like lip balm, because I don’t like having dry lips and if you’re out in the open wind and whatnot they dry up, which is not cool at all.
Louder is out on July 20th. The girls' debut album Welcome To The Jungle is out July 28th.
