You know when someone you secretly obsess over acknowledges you on social media? Whether it's a retweet, a like or a mention, it always feels like the biggest deal in the world. There was this one time when Duncan James from Blue followed me back on Twitter and I almost passed out from the excitement.
So when Stormzy and Louis Theroux had a bit of a moment on Twitter earlier this week, I felt all the feels for the two of them as I pondered who fanboy-ed over who when they slid into each other’s mentions.
Documentary king, Louis Theroux, tweeted a picture of grime ledgend Stormzy wearing a t-shirt with Louis' face on, which in itself is just great (erm, where can we get one please?). But Louis also mentioned Stormzy in his tweet to let him know that he was 'honoured' to see his face upon Stormzy's chest and that it was a 'great interview too’.
The picture went alongside Stormzy’s recent interview with The Observer, in which he describes Louis as a 'G', He also said: ‘I take my hat off to him, he’s good!’. We second that, Stormzy.
With that in mind I like to think that when he spotted what Louis had said, Stormzy was as beside himself as I would be if a ‘@louistheroux mentioned you in a tweet’ notification flashed up on my phone. In response, Stormzy tweeted: ‘@louistheroux thanks Louis you are a true legend I respect you HIGHLY! Thank You’ with both a heart emoji and a prayer hands emoji. This ain’t no ordinary level of appreciation guys, the love is real. HIGHLY real.
The blossoming of this beautiful social media relationship had been a few days in the making, though. Last week when Louis shared My Scientology Movie director, John Dower's Instagram picture of them at the NME awards, Stormzy quite aptly responded with 'you are the GOAT'. And if you're slightly confused, Stormzy doesn't mean 'goat' as in the horned farm animal (at least we don't think so) but rather the Greatest Of All Time. So many feels.
Oh, and that's not all. Elina (@voodoodollsz) managed to tweet screenshots from Stormzy's snapchat of yes, even more Louis Theroux love. The first snap reads: 'Bruddah...do man understand who Louis Theroux is'. The second says: 'The bruddah is one of the most intelligent and articulate bruddahs on this God forsaken planet'. That's right, shit got deep.
The question is though, where does the relationship go from here? A investigative collab on Louis' next documentary? An Adele-style shout out in Stormzy's next single? Who knows, we're all way too excited by the possibilities.
