When Kanye West went to visit Donald Trump at Trump Tower at the end of 2016, the Internet reacted with a mixture of shock and horror (as one Twitter user put it, 2016 had now 'eaten itself').
At the time, the appearance came just weeks after West's hospitalisation and breakdown, so the timing was strange. When probed by reporters on what the two had discussed, Trump explained that the two were 'friends', while West went on Twitter to say they had met to 'discuss multicultural issues. These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernising curriculums, and violence in Chicago.' He later deleted the Tweets, leading to even more speculation about what was going on.
Well, now there is a little bit of insight into the incident, by way of West's mother-in-law and Kardashian matriarch, Kris Jenner.
Appearing on the Ellen show this week, she cast some light on West's thinking, or, her complete lack of knowledge on what he was thinking.
'He went and Corey [Gamble] went with him, and they went because I think he had some, you know, issue that he might have wanted to talk about and I think that was the extent of it,' she said. 'I think he was lucky enough to be able to get, you know, an audience and talk about whatever they talked about, but I think that, you know, it wasn't for any special intention.'
Will he be back? Kris doesn't think so.
