Too Hot To Handle’s Emily Miller: ‘Love Island Has Had Its Time’

Unless you've been living under a rock, or haven't looked at the Grazia website in ages, you are probably already well aware that Love Island has kicked off. But if you're not yet convinced, there's a shorter, hotter alternative dating show which might just turn your head. Of course, we're talking about Too Hot To Handle. And good news, all episodes of the second series have just dropped on Netflix.

And, if we're being honest, the THTH villa makes Love Island look like a playground. On THTH, the sexual tension is palpable at all times - and the very vocal contestants don't care who knows it. There's no need for challenges to make things interesting, where people have to suck each other's toes or dare each other to mime awkward sex positions (Love Island, we're looking at you).

In case you missed the first series of THTH - which dropped during lockdown last year - the show's premise is that a group of very horny singletons are placed in a villa, only to be told by a robot, Lana, on the first night that they can't have any sort of sexual contact, otherwise they lose cash from the $100,000 prize.

Which, obviously, doesn't stop anybody from breaking the rules.

The stand-out couple from the show last year were Harry Jowsey and Francesca Farago (the latter now of TOWIE fame for briefly dating Demi Sims - even having a wank in the shower. 'It was selfish,' Emily says diplomatically while on the phone to Grazia, 'but that's him all over. I mean, you can tell that from the show.'

Before the reveal of Lana, Emily, as with the rest of the contestants from around the world, thought she would be appearing on a show called Parties in Paradise. And the London-based model tells Grazia that the producers did everything in their power to keep the contestants in the dark about the real reason they were on holiday in the Caribbean. 'Honestly, I'm not sure if they're normal people or they're award-winning actors,' she laughs, 'because they were so good! Even my chaperone did not let on one single bit, if we put on Netflix and we passed Too Hot To Handle, she'd be like "Oh, that show is shit!"'

Because of the deceit, Netflix were able to get contestants on the show who thought they were going to be partying, drinking and having sex on TV. Which means everyone has an incredibly open attitude to sex. More so than the Love Island contestants, Emily says. 'I guess you can compare [Love Island] to us, and they're quite boring and reserved,' she explains. 'On Too Hot To Handle, we're all just wild - there's no filter with us.'

'Usually I'm a massive fan of Love Island,' she adds, 'but I just feel like it's had its time, you know, it's time for some fresh meat to come in and spice things up a little bit. I feel like To Hot To Handle is Love Island's hotter, younger sister.' Emily thinks sex on reality TV is becoming less shocking, but as she points out, women (or men, for that matter) shouldn't be criticised for it. 'Nobody should be ashamed of being a sexual person or sex in general,' she adds. 'So I'm all for it.'

The 27-year-old remains tight-lipped about whether she's still in a relationship with Cam, who lives in Wales. However, she does tease: 'I am in a relationship. And whether that's from the show or not, you're gonna have to tune in.'
