Tommy Fury has broken his silence on his shock split from Molly-Mae Hague – revealing in a bombshell interview, ‘I lost my identity and let alcohol ruin my relationship.’

Speaking to Men’s Health about his relationship breakdown to 25-year-old Molly-Mae, the boxer, also 25, revealed how he found himself on a downward spiral after getting injured a few years back. His interview comes just days before the release of Molly-Mae’s new documentary, in which it was teased that the Maebe founder would address her split.

‘2023 was the best year that I’ve ever had,’ Tommy said in his interview. ‘I won two multimillion pound fights. I got engaged, I had a beautiful baby daughter, the lot. And then, all of a sudden, I was in a hospital bed being told that boxing might not be a thing for me anymore.’

‘Going from that [high] to that [low] – lying on the hospital bed knowing that I couldn't fight, couldn't train, couldn't lift weights, couldn't do any of that – [meant] my mental health was in the pan. Really bad.’

Admitting that a ‘huge part of his identity’ was stripped after his hand injury, the boxer – who is the younger brother of Tyson Fury – said that he turned to drink. Adding that he would be ‘smashing Guinness left, right and centre’ before turning to ‘shots,’ the star would find himself ‘black-out drunk’ most nights.’

After announcing their split last year, a whirlwind of speculation arose over the reason for the breakup – with allegations slung online that Tommy had been unfaithful while on holiday. At the time, the boxer’s spokesperson said he was ‘horrified by the false allegations and is consulting his lawyers.’

Insisting that allegations of cheating are 'complete and utter bollocks,' Tommy has now said, ‘We broke up because I had a problem with alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore. It kills me to say it, but I couldn’t. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink. Cheating was never a thing. You can ask Molly this yourself.'

Tommy also insisted that he never skipped out on his role as a father to his and Molly-Mae’s daughter, Bambi, while he was struggling – saying, ‘I didn't care how bad I felt in the morning or how rough I was, I'd be up at quarter past seven, waking the baby up, giving her a breakfast, making her breakfast, taking her to soft play, taking her to swimming, taking her to baby ballet. It was still very important for me while I was going through this stage to be like, okay, I want everything to be the same in her life. I was big on keeping her routine the same. That's why nobody really clocked on, because during the day the normality was still there.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Tommy revealed that he was no longer battling alcohol addiction – ‘I’m out of it now’ – and insisted he was ready to ‘pick back up and have a great 2025.’

Indeed, 2025 has already seen fans desperate for Molly-Mae and Tommy to rekindle. A very blurry video surfaced online supposedly showing the couple sharing a New Year’s kiss at a party, before Tommy was spotted leaving Molly-Mae’s Cheshire home in the early hours of the morning. Of course, the couple are co-parenting – meaning trips to each other’s home is, quite frankly, part of the parcel.

The boxer also opened up in his interview about how he is rarely ever able to shake his Love Island appearance – having appeared on the show back in 2019, where he met his ex-fiancee.

He said, ‘I've done Love Island, but one show does not define me, just as one fight doesn't define a person. Someone can't say they're a fighter after having one fight. They've got to live it. And that's what I've done for the past 25 years.’

Admitting that the show had an impact on his reputation as a boxer, Tommy added, ‘People in the industry and fellow boxers felt like I wasn't as hungry anymore, wasn't as dedicated.'

Tommy's admission comes just days before Molly-Mae is set to release her new documentary, landing on Amazon Prime on Friday 17. In teasers released, it seemed that Molly-Mae: Behind It All may have included an insight into the star’s split from Tommy – with Molly-Mae seen breaking down in tears as she explains, ‘Suddenly overnight, every part of my life changed.’

Previously speaking to Grazia, Molly-Mae opened up about ‘accepting the highs and lows,’ saying, ‘My relationship breakdown being in the public eye was hard, but also, I have a young daughter, so she was my strength. it's just waking up and pushing on because life has to. I've got businesses to run, a life to live and a daughter to raise.’

On her new documentary, she added, ‘We've really delved into the good and bad days of growing Maebe, so it's very real.’
