On 14 August, Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague announced that they had broken up and called off their engagement after five years together. Within minutes of Molly-Mae's statement being posted to her Instagram story, an influx of rumours about what caused the break up followed.
Due to the timing of the split – the couple had celebrated their five year anniversary two weeks prior – and the nature of Molly-Mae's statement – she wrote, 'Never in a million years did I think I'd ever have to write this. After five years of being together, I never imagined our story would end, especially not in this way' – many fingers pointing towards Tommy Fury.
Fans were quick to speculate as to whether he had done something to cause the break up, with several allegations suggesting Tommy had cheated and even that he had fathered another woman's child. Both of which he vehemently denies and has since called 'heartbreaking'.
Tommy and Molly-Mae, both 25, first met on Love Island in 2019 and had been together for five years. In January 2023, they welcomed their first child together, a daughter called Bambi, and the following July the couple got engaged.
Despite sharing a video of Tommy's proposal on Instagram with the caption, 'One year ago today I was tricked into going on a fake brand trip on which the love of my life would ask me to marry him', in July of this year – three weeks later Molly-Mae announced that they had split.
She wrote, 'Never in a million years did I think I'd ever have to write this. After five years of being together I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way. I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy's relationship has come to an end.
'I will forever be grateful for the most important thing to me now and always, my beautiful daughter. Without us there would be no her, she will always be my priority. I want to thank you all for the love you have shown us over the last five years. You have all been a part of our journey and I feel it's right to share this with you all. Whilst I attempt to navigate the coming days and weeks please kindly respect my privacy over this difficult time, I'll be back when it feels right. Molly-Mae x.'
Given that they met on the popular ITV reality show and that Molly-Mae shares large parts of her life with fans on social media and her YouTube channel, their split came as a shock to those that have followed their journey. It even warranted a Sky breaking news notification.
The former couple has not gone into detail about why they split, but they have both recently posted on social media to respond to messages they have received from fans. Molly-Mae shared a picture of herself overlooking a lake outside a cabin with the caption, 'Thank you for being the best online friends I could’ve ever wished for.'
Meanwhile, Tommy has hit back at the rumours. Sharing a photo where he can be seen tying his laces in the gym he wrote, 'These last few weeks have been heartbreaking. The false allegations about me have been horrendous, thank you to everybody who has stood by me through this.'
It's clear which person the internet is currently siding with, but for now, we are yet to know the full story.
