Cancel any Valentine's Day plans, because there is only one sensible way to spend this evening: watching Tom Hardy read the nation a bedtime story.

The potential Bond-in-waiting (sorry, Hiddleston) will appear on CBeebies at 6.50pm tonight to read the nightly bedtime story, which this time around is The Cloudspotter by Tom McLaughlin.

A 25-second teaser clip posted to CBeebies' Facebook page gives you an idea of what to expect, with Hardy informing viewers young and old (enough to know better) that 'Cloud spotting is definitely more enjoyable, especially if your best friend is a dog,' before the camera cuts to his own canine pal, Woody, the very same labrador cross who was guest of honour at Hardy's Legend premiere in 2015.

'And I’ve spotted you’re not in bed yet. Get yourself tucked up and I’ll see you very soon for another Bedtime Story,' he continues, before signing off with 'Night night!' That sweet, sweet voice.

Hardy first appeared on the children's TV channel on New Year's Eve, reading You Must Bring A Hat by Simon Phillip and Kate Hindley with Woody the dog by his side, and it seems that the actor is back by popular demand.

The Taboo star's new capacity as CBeebies' reigning king of bedtime stories couldn't be further from the string of roles that made Hardy famous, but we aren't exactly complaining. In fact, we're on the verge of petitioning for this to become a regular programming slot, in the interest of public morale.
