A scrub is a guy who thinks he's fly, and he's also known as a - oh my god they're back. And crowdfunding their album on Kickstarter, which is going pretty well thanks to one Katy Perry. Who knew she was a TLC superfan?
Chilli and T-Boz have been a duo since the tragic death of Lisa Left-Eye in 2002, and are now asking their millions of fans for a donation of $150,000 in a month to help make their final album - and rewards start from just $5. Katy Perry has, according to TMZ, donated a whopping $5000, which makes her eligible for the 'TLC SLUMBER PARTY - LA with T-BOZ'. There's another $5000 perk, but nobody has gone for that yet which means Katy has bagged a sleepover. 'Get ready to stay up late with T-BOZ. We’ll put on our jammies, order some late night snacks, and have some #TLCPillowTalk,' the campaign reads. 'Mom and Dad won’t be there, so there’s no need to keep the volume down. Plus, the vinyl, TLC scrapbook, dance school, fanmail, digital album, our list of favorite songs and Kickstarter exclusive remix!'
Now this is one slumber party we want to go to. Can you imagine the karaoke?
In terms of why the duo have decided to crowdfund, Chilli said in a recent interview that it wasn't anything to do with a falling out with any labels: 'Doing it this way, we have complete creative control. The only people we'll be talking to and asking their opinion is the fans. That's it,' she said. 'Our manager talked to us about Kickstarter long ago, and maybe he was just planting the seeds back then. Also, I got on Twitter later than most. I already had fans asking, "When are you coming back? We need more music!" Then once our biopic came out, the requests were just overwhelming. Fans have even been sending ideas for what they want a new album cover to look like -- they get so creative. They have so much love for us, and we thought, "We gotta do this, and we have to involve the fans.'
We heart TLC - and so do a fair few people, it seems. At the time of writing this, they're up to $105,000 and counting...
