Looks like Billy Zane, who played all-round bad egg Cal in everyone's favourite tearjerker Titanic, still hasn't come to terms with the way the film ended. And we don't mean that he's still umm-ing and ahh-ing over whether Jack could actually have fitted quite comfortably onto that floating door.
Nope, Billy is still convinced that Rose made the wrong choice at the end of the movie, and that she should have stuck with his villainous but financially secure character instead.
In a live Facebook interview with Us Weekly, Zane asserted that 'The world is divided into two kinds. When [women] were younger they were like, "How can you do that to Jack" And when they grow up they [say to me], "What was Rose thinking?"'
Erm, we love a Zoolander reference as much as the next person, but this is one case where 'Listen to your friend Billy Zane, he's a cool dude' just totally doesn't wash.
Let's just have a quick recap of the plot of Titanic: Cal is arrogant, insulting and aggressive from the start, not to mention a total snob, who causes his fiancée to contemplate suicide rather than marrying him. Does he sound like a great catch? Erm, not in our book.
Sorry, Billy, but you've got this one totally wrong. And who would have it in their heart to turn down Leonardo DiCaprio at his '90s peak? There's also the cogent point that Cal would have lost all of his hypothetical dollars in the Wall Street Crash of 1929...
Zane also dropped the bombshell that he 'still has [Leonardo DiCaprio’s] cell-phone number' - although he doesn't specify whether that's the same number Leo had in 1997. Maybe he should give Leo a call and brush up on the finer plot points of Titanic? We're sure Leo has plenty of time to spare in between saving the world, texting J. Lo and traversing the streets of New York on a Citibike...
