Tiger King’s Joe Exotic is reportedly in hospital, after being held in coronavirus isolation in prison. It was reported that Joe - who found unlikely fame from the hit Netflix series - was in quarantine after changing prisons, after the big cat breeder was moved in March from a county jail to federal facility FMC Fort Worth prison in Texas.
Exotic - real name Joe Maldonado-Passage - is serving a 22-year sentence for animal abuse and his involvement in a murder-for-hire plot. His husband Dillon Passage had previously said Joe had been placed in isolation after inmates at the county jail tested positive for the virus. The Sunnow reports that inmate records show he is being housed at Federal Medical Center Fort Worth, which is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Texas.
‘We speak like three to five times every day, but since he's been moved to this new facility, they are putting him on a Covid-19 isolation because of the previous jail he was at, there were cases,’ Passage previously told US entertainment reporter Andy Cohen. ‘I've yet to speak to him since he moved.’ When asked if Exotic is in individual quarantine, his husband said: ‘From what I know, yes.’
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the US is now over 200,000, and more than 5,800 Americans have died from the virus.
