As we all learned from The Theory Of Everything, Stephen Hawking has a very cheeky sense of humour. And it shows again, now that he’s used part of a lecture to give hope to Directioners heartbroken by Zayn Malik’s departure from the band.
It wasn’t a normal lecture – Hawking appeared at Sydney Opera House via hologram sent from the University of Cambridge - but what he said was pretty accessible, so far as theoretical physics goes.
When asked about the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving the biggest boyband in the world, Stephen replied: ‘One day there may well be proof of multiple universes… and in that universe Zayn is still in One Direction.’
By that logic, there’s a universe in which we’re back with our ex… which is great/awful at the very same time.
Oh, and about exes, Stephen also spoke about how the film of his life – a story which won Eddie Redmayne an Oscar – represented his first marriage to Jane: ‘It was surprisingly honest about our marriage. It was as close as I’ll ever get to travelling back in time.’
While he also said that he wished the film had ‘more physics and fewer feelings’, he thinks that about most films and, as *The Guardian *reports: ‘I won’t tell them how to make movies, if they don’t tell me how to solve the mysteries of the universe’.
