Lindsay Lohan, is that you? Nope – it’s Queen Bey. The ‘Crazy in Love’ singers’ waxwork has not only left the Beyhive, but everyone confused! The new wax figure was unveiled at the Madame Tussauds in New York.
Beyoncé is an artist who is well known, loved and admired worldwide. Almost everybody in the world knows her face. So, the question is, who commissioned this awful waxwork? What went wrong?
It wasn’t long before Twitter was in uproar over the waxwork. Fans were accusing the museum of whitewashing the artist. But, this isn’t the first-time Beyoncé has been whitewashed. Do you remember when Yoncé was the face of L’Oreal back in 2008? No? well, she was also whitewashed then – have a look here. The artist is naturally of a caramel-like complexion. So, how exactly is it that she is about 3 shades lighter in her waxwork at Madame Tussauds in New York?
Have a look at the waxwork below:
I will always give credit where credit is due. The wig is perfect and the outfit is OK (they could’ve made a better choice but, opposing opinions I suppose) However, in terms of the actual face structure, it’s just way off. I can’t help but notice just how much the singers nose has been formed to look so ‘straight.’
These are some of the reactions to the terrible sculpture:
But, it doesn’t stop there. Considering the popularity of the artist, Madame Tussauds in several locations have commissioned very bad waxworks.
This one actually made me quite sad – Hollywood 2014. It’s Hollywood. I get that the inspiration of the waxwork was taken from her I Am Sasha Fierce days but… the wig is wrong in so many ways. Yoncés’ lace front was much better than that Hollywood!
However, whilst there have been some really bad waxworks, there have also been some really great ones. Have a look at London, Regent’s park (2014) and Turkey, Istanbul (2016).
This is proof that they’re able to create a waxwork that *actually *looks like the artist.
After going viral and receiving so many angry comments, Madame Tussauds released a statement defending the waxwork exhibited in New York:
'At Madame Tussauds, our talented team of sculptors take every effort to ensure we accurately colour match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted.
'Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the colour of our wax figures which is something our sculptors are unable to account for at the production stage.'
Hmm. I'm not convinced.
