Whilst Love Is Blind might have faced some delays over the weekend, Netflix did tease audiences to a first glimpse at the upcoming season of Ultimatum: Queer Love.
The popular dating show is getting a brand new spin-off – and this time round, it’s got an all-queer cast.
In case you needed a quick reminder, The Ultimatum is the show with the perfect conditions for a whole lot of chaos. One member of a relationship is ready to take their romance to the next level, whilst the other isn’t totally convinced. So naturally, they take their other halves onto The Ultimatum, where they’re issued with, well, an ultimatum. The couples enter a “trial” marriage with members of other couples on the show, before eventually deciding whether they want to leave the show single or remain in their original relationship.
Despite some arguing that the premise is a little too manipulative for TV, many were excited to hear the show would be making a return. And when the news broke, fans were thrilled to finally be seeing some much needed representation on the dating scene.
One Twitter user wrote, ‘I’m shocked we’re finally getting a sapphic dating show on Netflix,’ as another agreed ‘It looks SOOO messy… my popcorn is ready.’
Another joked, ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love is about to be a mess because one thing lesbians know how to do is have drama.’
And Luria Freeman shared, ‘SCREAMING! I watch most reality TV with my mom, and my biggest critique of these dating shows is that they still aren’t inclusive of how people love. Mix it up! I’m so here for The Ultimatum: Queer Love! I’m excited for her to see why this representation is not only important, but equally entertaining.’
Season one got pretty intense, so we’re imagining season 2 certainly won’t disappoint when it comes to drama…
Who is JoAnna Garcia Swisher?
In a departure from Netflix’s golden couple Vanessa and Nick Lachey, Sweet Marigold’s JoAnna Garcia Swisher will be hosting the show.
The 43 year old American actress is best known for her roles in Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Freaks and Geeks, and the sitcom Reba. Taking over from the Lachey’s, JoAnna will be the one leading couples through their ultimatum journey.
How many couples are there?
Last season, we saw six couples enter the show. This year, there’ll be only five couples (meaning 10 contestants), but all contestants on this season are women or nonbinary. As of yet, there’s no info on specific identities of the cast.
And if you were worried a smaller cast might mean less drama, don’t worry. In the teaser trailer, one contestant admits they put their dog over everything, before another seemingly refers to their other half as ‘Voldemort.’ We’re guessing there’ll be some tears.
When is The Ultimatum: Queer Love released?
The show is coming out on 24 May.
Where can I watch The Ultimatum: Queer Love?
You can watch the series over on Netflix once it goes live at the end of May. In the meantime, you can catch up on series one of The Ultimatum, or watch the teaser trailer for Queer Love over and over again.
