Remember when Kanye West did a fashion show and everyone hated it, particularly annoyed that so much of it was fur despite it being a Spring/Summer collection? Well, we can't let that be the anecdote which defines his sartorial career, because a teenager just got shot in the queue to buy Kanye's new Nike trainers.
Isaiah Martinez, 15, was so desperate to get some of the limited-edition Nike Air Foamposite Pro 'Yeezy' trainers, he pushed in the queue for Foot Locker, in Bushwick, New York, on Saturday at 6am.
'There were people camped out for the sneakers and Isaiah tried to cut the line,' Isaiah's friend Edison Cartagena told New York Daily News. 'They get into a scuffle and one of the guys on line left and told Isaiah he was coming back with a gun. He came back and just fired off four shots. He probably shot him in the foot just to scare him off ... You know, send a message.'
The store's opening was then delayed until 11am, but once it did open, it sold out of the trainers, which were the product of Kanye's final collaboration with Nike (now he works with Adidas).
See, the trainers might officially be worth $250 (£149), but we strongly doubt they were worth Isaiah getting shot in the foot for. Cartagena said: 'I don't think anyone should lose their life over a pair of sneakers.' Besides, Isaiah, who's still recovering from the wound in hospital, never even got his hands on a pair of the shoes.
Police have arrested a 14-year-old on assault and weapon charges, putting the 'yeesh' into 'Yeezy.'
