Great Britain has won its first ever Paralympic Gold medal, thanks to Kelly Gallagher. The partially-sighted skier, 28, along with her guide, Charlotte Evans, came first on the Rosa Khutor Super G slalom course in Sochi, completing it in 28.72 seconds. 'It was nerve-wracking but I'm delighted with the result,' Kelly told BBC Sport. It’s also the first alpine gold for Team GB, whether it be Olympic or Paralympic, which is pretty good going.
‘It’s so good to have a reward for the good work we put in…I dreamt so hard about being on the centre of the podium!’ If that doesn't sound briliant enough, Kelly is an avid campaigner for young girls, especially less able girls, to take part in sport: ‘It would mean such a lot to me if my success could help provide a role model for the parents of some other visually-impaired little girl to see me and think, “There's no reason why my child shouldn't do this”.’
And that’s not quite it from Kelly. She still has another three races to go, which means three more potential medal wins. So, a big congratulations and a massive good luck!
