Last year, it seemed as if nary a celebrity could even breathe without being drafted into Taylor Swift’s #girlsquad, and, as a result were destined to walk up and down the stage with the popstar as she sings stuff about how gals are the best pals and so on. But one celebrity - she’s hot, she’s young, she’s smart - wasn’t having any of it.
Enter Chloe Moretz. The actress, in an interview with Complex magazine, was asked if she was into the idea of girl squads: ‘They appropriate exclusivity. They’re cliques!’, she said. The interviewer then asked if, with Chloe being a friend of Selena Gomez, she knows Taylor. Then this happened:
‘“Yes’ she repeats carefully, nothing more. ‘And?’ At this point I’ve forced celebrity Chloë Grace Moretz and 19-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz to collide. She seems to want to say a lot of things—perhaps about the Bad Blood singer—but already knows the repercussions of those things becoming public. I can practically feel her urge to unleash bubbling and rising to the top of her throat. Just then a smile spreads across her moon-shaped face, the padlock that keeps whatever’s in her mind just right there, and she says, measuredly, ‘She’s a very talented person.’ ‘You can talk to me about these things, you know,’ I say back. ‘You know I can’t!’ she laughs.”
As far as air-kiss and tells go, it keeps the details very hush-hush. But is anyone else starting to feel like Taylor’s got a mysterious grip around even those who aren’t in her thrall? Or is it more that Chloe's a lone wolf in Hollywood? Earlier this month she went in on Kim Kardashian for sharing that nude selfie, saying: 'I truly hope you realise how important setting goals are to young women - teaching them that we have so much more to offer than just our bodies'.
If you're not with Taylor's squad or the Kardashians', you're pretty much drifting about on your own in the sea that is young Hollywood... Good for her.* *
