Taylor Swift is kind of private. We mean, we know absolutely everything about her private life when it’s packaged into a story and told via a song. But when it comes to her actual private life, the stuff she hasn’t permitted to go on sale, she likes to keep it schtum.

That’s why some peoplewere pretty surprised that she uploaded loads of bikini shots of her hanging out with Haim in Hawaii last month. However, what might look like attention seeking is actually a clever ruse to ruin the livelihoods of the paparazzi who chase her.

‘We spent this whole trip feeling like, “This is amazing, we’re so sly, there is no paparazzi anywhere.” You know, I’m always checking. I’m looking a mile away. It’s been ten years of this, I know how to spot a lens, I know how to hear the faint clicking sounds a mile away. There was nothing, I swear,’ she told Nick Grimshaw on his Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

‘And then we’re on our last day and we’re whale-watching on a boat and we start... we see a fishing boat a half a mile away and we’re like, “That's a little weird.”’

Taylor’s bodyguards, using binoculars, realised the paparazzi were using long lenses (which are banned for British paps, FYI) to take photos of the girls. So Taylor, Este, Danielle and Alana decided to get their own back.

‘I don’t want them to make like $100,000 for stalking us... So we’re like, get up on the bow of the boat and take better bikini shots so they don’t make as much money on theirs,’ she said.

‘We found out later they had been everywhere we were, but in Hawaii their long lenses are so good that they can be like two miles away, this is why Iggy Azalea is mad, this just happened to her. Hawaii is the craziest paparazzi place. I’ve never seen such stealth-mode paparazzi.’

See, smart. And it’s interesting that she’s got time for Iggy Azalea, you wouldn’t necessarily have them down as kindred spirits, would you?

Next time we’re rich and famous? We’ll be going to St Barts…
