The myth of the suffering artist is alive and well in Taylor Swift, who’s said that the reason she writes songs is because she wasn’t really that cool when she was growing up. Despite looking like a head cheerleader and just giving off that grade-A student vibe, she insists that it was social isolation which led her to write the sorts of songs that make her so universally popular. Funny how these things work out, right?

‘I started writing songs because I wasn’t invited to parties and sleep-overs. I wasn’t noticed by the guy I like,' she told the Daily Star. 'Writing songs has taught me a lot. One of the hardest lessons to learn in life is there’s sometimes nothing you can do to make someone like you if they don’t. It’s okay to let that go.’

Well, strike us down with a steely death-stare if this isn’t exactly the advice she gave to BFF Selena Gomez about brand-new BFF Lorde. Selena proudly admitted that despite knowing that Lorde doesn’t like her, she still thinks the 17-year-old New Zealander is ‘cool’. And Taylor says she didn’t have friends at school? We could have done with someone like her around. Especially if she could have snuck us into the American ambassador's house in London just for a little sing-song, as she recently did with tourmate Ed Sheeran and Cara Delevingne.
