Taylor Swift has made no secret of the fact her ex-boyfriends have inspired some of her greatest songs. Thinly-veiled references about her short-lived romance with Harry Styles (I Knew You Were Trouble et al)? A not-so-subtle nod to John Mayer in, er, Dear John? It's all there.

It’s now been two years since the release of her best-selling album 1989 and six months of guessing whether her breakup with Calvin Harris will find its way onto her new tracks.

As celebrity breakups go, Tay and Calvin's appeared to be pretty amicable. The Scottish DJ posted on Twitter that he had nothing but 'love and respect' for his former girlfriend (which Swifty quickly retweeted). Then the world got wind of Hiddleswift and so begun the social media fallout between the former pair. Cue unfollowing, deleted Instagram pics and Taylor’s camp releasing a statement that she actually co-wrote Calvin Harris’ song, featuring Rihanna, This Is What You Came For.

Calvin did not take the news well that his former flame would want to actually be credited, y’know for work she had done. I mean, who does she think she is, right?

And in a perfect twist, Taylor performed her own stripped back rendition of the song, in her first show for 2016. ‘I’ve never played this song live before,’ she told the crowd. ‘But if you know it, maybe you could sing along, and then I could get to know what that feels like to hear it sung back to me.’

We wonder if the piano-led cover will get her ex’s seal of approval…
