We’ve forgotten about the housing crisis already

Steps Are Coming Back For Their 20th Anniversary

The world is a horrible place sometimes. But it wasn’t when you were in single-digits and staying up past your bedtime at your best pals disco throwing some shapes to Tragedy. And the good news is that you can relive that fun, as Steps have announced their return (except now you have a 9-5 and Donald Trump is President).

And if Claire, Faye, Lisa, H and Lee prancing around at an arena near you isn’t enough nostalgia to keep you going, then you’ll be pleased to hear that the support act is The Vengaboys, and one of the songs on their new album, aptly named Tears On The Dancefloor, was written by Abba’s Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.

Whilst there are often high expectations for come-back singles to be modern and fresh we are kind of hoping that Steps create something with a noughties cringe element to it, just because Steps. But the band has said that they want to ‘build a bridge’ between classic One For Sorrow-esque music and ‘where Steps should be twenty years on’. All will be revealed on Friday as the first single Scared Of The Dark is released. Fingers crossed for matching outfits and dance moves.

In an interview with Popjustice for their return, Claire said: ‘A lot’s happened within the world in those twenty years, hasn’t it? It’s a tough place out there. We’re not here to get into the politics of the world but what we can offer is escapism and a bit of positivity in people’s lives’. Escapism… otherwise interpreted as Steps encouraging us to forget about the housing crisis by dressing up as said single-digited self with bunches and slogan tee’s whilst we sing into a hairbrush. Definitely on board with that.

We can’t wait for Friday.
