As Sophie Hermann Says, Sometimes It’s Sensible Not To Define A Relationship

The reality star told Grazia yesterday that her and Tom haven't defined their relationship - and we agree that, especially now, it's best to take your time.

Over the past few years on Made in Chelsea,Sophie Hermann has become one of our favourite faces. Sassy, hilarious and a loyal friend, she's a woman who is confident, knows what she wants and isn't apologetic about it. It's no wonder she gained a bigger following after starring on Celebs Go Dating earlier this year, as those who might not have known her from Chelsea were introduced to the Herminator (for those who don't know, what she calls herself).

On the dating show, she got close to fellow celeb Tom Zanetti - which sent viewers into meltdown, as fans waited to see whether The Duchess, and Tom, the humble DJ from Leeds, would make it in the real world. They weren't disappointed, as Tom and Sophie's flirtation wasn't just confined to The Mansion.

Fast forward a few months, and Tom joined Made in Chelsea briefly, with Tom set to rejoin the show in the next episode on Monday evening. The trailer all looks very romantic, with Tom gifting Sophie flowers. But we don't know what's going to happen in the next few episodes, as speaking to Grazia yesterday{ =nofollow}, Sophie teased that Tom is a member of the cast who surprises her in the next few episodes.

Intriguing, yes... We wonder what's going to happen? As we all know drama is never far from the corner in Chelsea, even in the most established relationships. (Hello, just look at Ruby and Reza who have been together for years and years, and the past arguments between Emily and Harvey about their future.)

But what might surprise some fans as Sophie said, while talking to us yesterday, that she hadn't defined her relationship with Tom. 'I wouldn't call it a relationship anyway,' Sophie told us, when I asked how living in the MIC houses impacted her and Tom. 'We have never defined anything because we only had the time to see each other for a short amount of time. It was nice to see him again, and to actually be able to hang out.'

Now, while some people might have assumed the pair were official - I'm guilty here, too - we respect Sophie for reminding us that you don't have to define your relationship straight off the bat (whether you're in the public eye or not).

Modern dating is tough. And while some people might not understand, why, nowadays, it seems like it takes longer to get into relationships - it can sometimes be the most sensible thing to take your time, and work out whether someone is 100% for you, before calling somebody your partner.

And that would be a smart move in normal times. But now, even more so. When you've met during a pandemic, things are even more unsteady. You've probably not been able to spend as much time together as you'd perhaps like. Oh, and then the world has turned upside down at the same time. You have to think to yourself, would this work, if coronavirus never happened? It's something Sophie herself said to us, speaking about all the relationships on Made in Chelsea. 'This is really a time where you make it or you break it,' she said. 'And this also raises some questions about the future, are you going into the same direction, and things like that.'

Speaking from personal experience, there's been a couple of men I've dated throughout the past year, and I'm very, very glad our relationship wasn't defined - because it saved a lot of explaining later down the line, when I realised, actually, it would have never worked if things were back like they were in the good old days of 2019 (before the world turned to absolute shit). Whether Tom and Sophie make it official or not, and regardless of what happens on TV, it's understandable why Sophie has taken her time, and refused to define the relationship so far.
