Solange And Jay Z Are Totally Cool, He Says

Remember THAT post-Met Gala elevator argument between Solange and Jay Z whereby Beyoncé tried to stay out of things and Solange pretty much kicked Jay? Well, Jay insists that all that is history.

He told Rap Radar: ‘We had one disagreement ever. Before and after we’ve been cool.

‘She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period’

He then added that that sort of scuffle is just one of those things that family does: ‘We’ve always had a great relationship. I fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space. But it ain’t nothing.’

Hmm. It sure looked like something. Not only did Lemonade, Beyoncé’s stellar visual album, allude to Jay cheating on her, but Beyoncé addressed the scuffle in the 2014 remix to Flawless****. On the song, which saw her team up with Nicki Minaj, she sang ‘Of course shit go down when it’s a billion dollars in the elevator’. The implication is that very rich people have big fights but we've seen footage of Topshop boss Phillip Green, Kardashian momager Kris Jenner and fashion supremo Tommy Hilfiger smashing loads of plates in a Mykonos restaurant and getting along very well. Maybe that’s a better way way to deal with any frustrations?

It might be worth Jay finding out, because though he’s cool with Solange, he’s still got issues with Kanye West. His former friend and collaborator went off on one at a gig last year, ranting about Jay’s refusal to call him and Beyoncé’s alleged refusal to perform at the MTV VMAs unless she beat Kanye and Drake to win Video of the Year (she did, at least, win the award and perform). He then cancelled the remainder of his Saint Pablo tour, citing exhaustion.

Jay now says of the accusations: ‘You got hurt, because this guy was talking about you on a stage.

‘But what really hurt me, you can't bring my kid or my wife into it. Like, Kanye is my little brother. He's talked about me a hundred times. He even made a song called Big Brother. We've gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it, now it's a problem.’
