Who Is Sofia Richie And Why Is Everyone Talking About Her?

Sofia Richie has undoubtedly become a household name in a matter of days following an online spat between ex-beaus Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. We’re talking the kind of fall out that resulted in Bieber deleting his Instagram account after fans criticised his new girlfriend, Sofia. Drastic, right?

But it got us thinking, just who is the biggest Belieber of the moment, Sofia Richie?

Well, we’ve been doing a little digging and have got our investigation game well and truly on. With 1.3 million Instagram followers, an enviable sense of style and a squad big enough to make Taylor Swift jealous - there's no wonder she's the new 'it' girl.

So we decided to pull together a guide on absolutely everything you need to know about Sofia Richie. Step aside Hadid sisters, there’s a newbie in town…

She has famous roots

We thought she had a familiar name... The 17 year-old (yes, she has already gained uber cool status at a young age), was born to parents Lionel Richie and his second ex-wife Diana Alexander Richie.

And of course that means she has an equally famous sibling, Nicole Richie, and brother, Miles Brockman Richie.

Sofia can sing

With a smooth-serenading father like Lionel Richie, it's no wonder a young Sofia embarked upon singing dreams of her own. She told Entertainment Tonight, 'When I was 13, I was saying that I wanted to be signed to a label. I was begging my dad to get me signed with somebody.'

But Lionel proved that dads know best as she continued, 'I was determined that I was so ready, and I was in the perfect spot to do all these crazy things. But I just needed to grow up and learn about life and that wasn’t going to be as easy I thought it was going to be.'

She has however, ventured into the musical world as she was asked to appear in DJ Samantha Ronson's video for the song, Summer of Sam.

She’s set to take on the Olsen twins…

Aside from modelling, Sofia is fashion’s newest darling and plans on venturing into the design sphere. It's even rumoured she applied to the Parsons School of Design in New York. And it seems she’s taking inspo from everyone’s favourite twins, the Olsens. ‘I look at the Olsen twins' company, The Row, and see how I'd like my line to be represented. I'd like it to be something you could wear day to day, or at night to a party,' she told Fault magazine. ‘I want to be able to vary my outfits. At the same time The Row is taken very seriously and that's exactly how I want my line to be seen.’

She’s not quite after the fame brought upon the Olsen twins, though, as she told Seventeen magazine in an interview, ‘My aspiration isn't to be famous; it's to design clothes. If that gets me attention at the end of the day, cool’. And we're pretty sure she's already garnered the interests of the fashion elite as she is often spotted coveting the latest trends at fashion week and sitting amongst fellow muses on the FROW.

She’s our new go-to for style and hair inspo

We’re talking serious Instagram goals here, people. With a penchant for designer brands (Vetements and Balmain to name a few), Sofia sports athleisure well with a sartorial nudge to the nineties. Think bandanas, bombers, pink tinged glasses and cool girl braids. We can’t help but wonder if her fondness of the era harks back to the days she would raid big sister Nicole’s wardrobe…

She told People, ‘I would steal clothes out of my sister’s closet, like, all day. She would fall asleep and I would go in there and grab a bunch of stuff. I felt like a full-on thief, but I guess that’s what sisters are for: stealing clothes’.

It seems she has definitely fine-tuned her own sense of inimitable style now, though. One we kinda want to replicate…

Sofia is set to be the model of the moment

The 17-year-old signed up with Select Model Management back in 2014 and has been in high demand ever since. A year later in fact, she landed her very first campaign for Madonna’s Material Girl, which was a huge deal for the teen as she admitted to being a fan of the singer since the age of five.

She told People, ‘I've been a Madonna obsessor since I was five, so it's insane that this is happening.’ Ever since, the model has made appearances in both magazine editorials and on the FROW.

Look out Taylor, she has a pretty strong squad…

A famous fam often comes hand in hand with a similarly famous squad. We’re talking Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Jorydn Woods, Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin to name a few. Oh, and she recently took a trip on a private jet with Fergie according to her Instagram. Old school.

It's enough to get Taylor Swift quaking in her boots...
