This week, American website Page Six added fuel to the flaming rumour mill concerning the ongoing claims that Adele - the award-winning singer of hits including Someone Like You - is in a relationship with rapper Skepta. Their latest evidence? An alleged sighting of Adele at an outlet mall in California. You wouldn't necessarily think that the multi-millionaire would need to shop at a discounted Prada store, but who doesn't love a bargain? Anyway, their source states that Adele was with a man who looked like Skepta and appeared to have the same tattoos.
'She was sitting watching him while he was picking sweaters, pants, trying on jackets and coats and having the employees help him. She was giving him feedback and saying what she thought he looked great in,' Page Six reports. 'It was cute that just waiting and being a normal girlfriend while he looked. He must have shopped for 45 minutes.' Naturally, this alleged sighting is not conclusive proof of a romantic connection. But where did it all start? Let's start at the beginning.
In 2019, Adele filed for divorce from husband Simon Konecki. Later that year, according to The Sun, she was connected with Skepta. The paper reported in October that the music stars had been in close contact since her marriage broke down in April. Adele had, after all, been at the rapper’s 37th birthday held at the Crystal Maze experience in London, mere two weeks before.
A source told the paper, ‘Adele and Skepta have been there for each other a lot after both their relationships split up. They have a close bond and there’s definitely a special connection. They’re spending more and more time together. Some of their friends are hoping and predicting they could end up being a great couple one day.’
Skepta had been dating Naomi Campbell, but the couple split in April of 2019. Skepta became a dad in November of the same year, while Adele has a son, Angelo.
In June of 2020, it became clear that they were, at the very least, still in communication. When Adele posted an Instagram post about Glastonbury, showing herself at home while she watched her performance on TV, Skepta commented beneath it: 'finally got your Instagram password lol.’ Adele replied with a simple winking face and heart emoji.'
Then again, Adele has referred to herself as 'single' since these rumours began.
So, what's the truth? Our findings are, as yet, inconclusive. But we live in hope of a match made in music heaven, and for an invitation to the wedding. We can dream, can't we?
