Simon Cowell Tells Fans To ‘Read The Manual’ Before Riding E-Bike After Breaking His Back

Simon Cowell has broken his silence after breaking his back in three places at his Malibu home and undergoing six hours of surgery.

The music mogul was almost paralysed when he fell off an electric bike and narrowly missed injuring his spinal cord by a mere centimetre. He has since admitted he didn't read the manual before giving it a go, making light of the painful accident.

'Some good advice...' he tweeted. 'If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.'

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         The 60-year-old, who has spent the past year following a healthy regime to boost his health, was test driving a new e-bike in his courtyard when he fell and was quickly taken to hospital.

A representative confirmed the injury to Deadline, telling them, 'He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He's doing fine, he's under observation and is in the best possible hands.'

With the first live show of America’s Got Talent due to air this coming Tuesday (August 11th) Simon was scheduled to return to our screens imminently in his legendary capacity as talent show judge. It remains to be seen whether he’ll be able to film as planned, with Simon’s health undoubtedly his first priority.

Filming for the talent show kicked off on Sunday without him, but judge Sofia Vergara sent her well wishes to Simon on Instagram, sharing a photo on set and captioning it, ' We miss our boss!! Come back fast @simoncowell!!'

Depending on which part of the back is affected and the severity of the injury, broken backs can cause mobility to be impaired and recovery can be a long process.

However Simon has been in good health prior to the accident, having lost 60 pounds in the last year following a fainting accident in 2017. The BGT and X Factor judge creator has been fighting fit and enjoying time with his six-year-old son Eric and wife Lauren Silverman during the pandemic.

Speaking to The Sun in May, Simon said ‘I'm doing a bit of cooking. I'm exercising. Funny enough, more during this time as well, sticking to the diet. The only difficult thing is when Eric orders a pizza...that's the number one thing I miss.'

Here’s hoping Simon’s recovery is a speedy one, and that he’s back on his bike (and dreaming of pizza) as soon as possible.
