As much as we’d like to spend all our time gazing mindlessly at beautiful men on the television, today we’re going to leave our cultural comfort zone and investigate all there is to shamelessly objectify in artist-to-watch Chris Moon. Because as well as being touted as the next big thing (Harper’s called him ‘the new art superstar’) he’s also fit. Fit AND rave reviews? We like that in a stranger. Also, there’s always the possibility that you’ll fall in love and he’ll turn you into his muse, which, as everyone knows, is the coolest not-a-real job ever.
Self-taught Moon has been compared to Francis Bacon, and has a new exhibition opening at Forge & Co Gallery in London this Thursday. A Splendid Isolation is based on a road trip he took round California, and given that his first two exhibitions were a critical success and a commercial sell out, it’s definitely one to name-drop in the pub. Even better, there’s prime stalking potential, as Moon will be joining gallery curator Gilly Fox in conversation next Monday (31 March), so you know, go along and have a good ogle/ask some interesting and insightful questions about his work. And if you happen to have some spare cash sitting around (ha!) and you’re looking for an investment, you could do worse…
Vital statistics
Age: 37
Location: London
Significant Other? No idea, so lets assume he’s single and spends hours and hours moodily painting in his studio and dreaming of meeting the perfect woman, like a Shoreditch Disney Prince.
Reasons why we love him:
He’s resourceful – he started his career travelling the world, staying rent-free in hostels in return for painting them. Which means if his art stuff goes down the pan, he could probably still take you for a lovely couple of weeks in Marrakech.
After a disappointing foundation course, he ditched the art-school route and concentrated on honing his craft, not exhibiting his work for several years. Brooding.
According to the press release, he seems to spend his time painting in a paint-splattered leather jacket. As we said: hot.
