If you couldn’t help but wonder what Carrie Bradshaw and co have been up to since the closing scenes of Sex and the City 2, then we have some bad news: after years of hints, rumours and sort-of confirmations from various members of the cast, it seems that Sex and the City 3 has been scrapped, with Sarah Jessica Parker being the bearer of the sad tidings.
Speaking to Extra at the New York City Ballet Gala last night, the actress was asked about the future of the long-anticipated third outing for Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha. 'It's over. We're not doing it,' she responded. Cue the sound of a million millennial hearts breaking.
'I'm disappointed,' she went on to reveal. 'We had this beautiful, funny, heart-breaking, joyful, very relatable story and script,' she said, before alluding to her sadness at not being able to give SATC's legions of vocal fans what they want.
'It's not just disappointing that we don't get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie,' she said.
According to a new report in the Daily Mail, the 'three-quel' had already gone into production, and was set to start filming in the next few days.
As recently as February of this year, SJP implied that the third SATC had a promising future, telling Marie Claire at New York fashion week that the project was 'in a warming drawer' and revealing that 'it's never been a 'no'...it's always been an "if" and "when."'
'And that remains the question being asked by two very thoughtful people who are taking into very serious consideration those people who devoted a lot of time. We're not cavalier about the way we arrive at that decision,' she added.
Sigh. You'll find us seeking solace, Carrie-style, in cocktails and Manolos...
