The beginning of the year brought some welcome good news: Sex And The City is coming back. Sarah Jessica Parker announced the revival in January, posting a short teaser for the 10-episode limited series - And Just Like That - which is going to air on HBO Max. But, this time, the show is returning without Kim Cattrall's Samantha. SJP will return as Carrie, as well as the other lead actresses: Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte, and Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda.

There had also been a lot of conflicting reports over whether or not other regular members of the cast will be returning, including Chris Noth, aka Mr Big. But it's now been confirmed that the actor will come back, with executive producer Michael Patrick King telling Deadline: 'How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex And The City story without our Mr Big?' But it's probably not going to be plain sailing for Carrie, as John Corbett has confirmed he will be back, reprising his role as her love interest, Aidan. Other characters returning include Steve, Harry, Stanford and Anthony. There'll also be some new additions, including Sara Ramirez, best known to audiences for her performance in Grey's Anatomy. According to Deadline, Sara plays 'a non-binary, queer stand-up comedian who hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured. Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular.'

Filming has been underway, with paparazzi shots of the trio walking through New York emerging on Instagram, followed by an image released by HBO Max.

A few months ago, Sarah Jessica Parker shared a photo with her two lead co-stars ahead of script read-throughs.

Then later that week, she teased the start of shooting in Manhattan.

Who will be missing from And Just Like That?

Yes it's true, not everyone will be joining us for the reboot of the century. One scheduling issue means that iconic designer Patricia Field isn't returning to the show, as instead, she is working on the next season of Emily In Paris, the brainchild of SATC's creator Darren Star. 'The main reason was a time conflict,' she toldWWD. 'I wasn’t able to be in New York doing that and be in Paris doing Emily in Paris. But I told them to call my very dear friend Molly Rogers, who also worked in my store back in the day. She did Sex and the City with me from start to finish. She knew it well so she’s doing it. My dance card was full.' (So, no bad feelings - or anything like that.)

Will Samantha Jones be in And Just Like That?

Say it ain't so... but the main character missing is Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones. There was a lot of people wondering how they would write out the iconic character. But now, of course, we now know.

HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys has given an interview in which he suggests that Samantha and the girls just aren't in each other's lives anymore. 'They’re not trying to re-do Sex and the City,’ Casey said. 'They’re not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s. It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s. Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life. They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.’

Of course, the reason Kim, 64, probably doesn't wish to revisit the series - which aired from 1998–2004 - is because of her very public feud with Sarah. Their falling out became incredibly public in 2018, following reports Kim's brother had died, when SJP shared her condolences with her former castmate in an Instagram comment. This did not go down well with Kim, who responded in a separate post. 'Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now,' she wrote. ‘Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already). You are not my family. You are not my friend.'

Kim reportedly stalled the discussions for a third SATC movie after she told Warner Bros. she would only appear in the film if the studio produced films she had in development, which it refused to do.

Before that, there had long been disagreements over money. The Telegraph reported in 2008 that Kim fell out with the rest of the cast when Sarah was given an executive producer credit - which doesn't necessarily imply any additional duties or creative control - that bumped her salary up an additional $300,000. When Kim reportedly asked for more money, the rest of the lead actresses reportedly 'wouldn't even sit with [Cattrall] at mealtimes.'
