Selena Gomez has admitted that even though (she thinks) Lorde doesn't like her, she thinks the singer is 'really cool'. When asked which rising star she thinks has 'girl power' (yep, that phrase, which is literally one month older than Lorde, is still being bandied about), Selena responded: 'She doesn't really like me and that's alright, but her name's Lorde and she's really cool. I mean I do think her message is very powerful. She's very young but she's got a lot to say and that's great, so more power to her.'
The Lorde-and-Selena-not-seeing-eye-to-eye thing apparently started when the New Zealander expressed her dismay at the lyrics of Selena Gomez's *Come & Get It. * 'I’m a feminist and the theme of her song is, "When you’re ready come and get it from me." I’m sick of women being portrayed this way,' she said.
Selena responded by telling Flaunt that Lorde's comment was 'not feminism. She is not supporting other women. I actually covered her song in all of my shows that I've done so far. I'm not sure if I'm going to continue that.'
Then Lorde was spotted hanging out with Selena's hitherto BFF Taylor Swift and all cliches would have this lead to a series of snarly friend-custody battles. But instead it seems like for all her ability to be snide about exes, Taylor managed to get Selena and Lorde to patch up their differences. As Selena put it: 'I feel that girl power is almost more powerful and more special than anything we're even competing for.' Which is pretty right on, we think.
