Ever since 13 Reasons Why debuted on Netflix, it's all we've been able to talk about. The 13-part series is certainly not your average teen drama, as the plot explores the dangerous consequences of living in a social media era.
And the highly-anticipated series has already sparked much-needed conversation around mental health and sexual assault.
But Selena Gomez, the executive producer on the show, didn't foresee the success of the show.
In a recent interview at WE Day, she admitted to E! News that she was ‘a little overwhelmed and very surprised’ by the postive reviews.
She continued: "I mean I believed in the project for so long and I understood what the message was. I just wanted it to come across in a way that kids would be frightened, but confused - in a way that they would talk about it because it's something that's happening all the time. So, I'm overwhelmed that's it's doing as well as it's doing."
But with the unanticipated success of the series, will Selena return with a second season?
Selena smirked and answered: “Maybe.”
We'll hold you to that.
