Hashtagging an Instagram picture #freethenipple might be enough for some people, but it’s nowhere near enough for Scout Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. The 22 year old took off her top to walk around the streets of New York on Tuesday to bring awareness to the social network’s cover-up rules, which include banning pictures of breastfeeding and breast cancer survivors.
‘What Instagram won’t let you see,’ she Tweeted, attaching a picture of her walking down the street topless. A second photo is captioned: ‘Legal in New York but not on Instagram' – referring to the New York City law that allows both men and women to be topless in public.
Instagram’s rules state that ‘you may not post violent, nude, partially nude, discriminatory, unlawful, infringing, hateful, pornographic or sexually suggestive photos or other content’.
Obvs, Scout’s account was unceremoniously deleted by Instagram, but her Twitter remains active and is filled with re-tweets of support from fellow #freethenipple campaigners.
Rihanna’s in a fight with Instagram, too, as her account was shut down last month after she posted a picture featuring a bit of nip from her Lui magazine cover.
