We know the business of being nine years old is tough and all that but perhaps a young Scarlett Johansson could have mustered up a little bit more enthusiasm in her audition for Jumanji back in 1995?
‘SIGH, I’ve got 67 dollars and 8 cents,’ the actress says, one step away from eye-rolling with the weight of the ridiculousness of it all. The part eventually went to fellow actress Kirsten Dunst.
In all fairness, though, if someone tried to explain the concept of Jumanji to us pre-Jumanji we’d probably be just as sceptical as a young Scarlett appears to be. A board game that spits out racist big game hunters, zoo animals and a strange manchild it’s held captive for 26 years? Sounds less the plot of a family-friendly blockbuster and more the ramblings of a homocidal maniac. We’ll stick to Home Alone thanks, much more plausible.
