Remember last month when Scarlett Johansson mocked Ivanka Trump in a Saturday Night Live skit? Johansson played Trump in a parody perfume ad called ‘Complicit - the fragrance for the woman who can stop all this, but won't.’
Unsurprisingly, the President's daughter was not too happy about Johansson’s sketch, and in her first interview since her father’s inauguration she addressed the issue of being ‘complicit’.
‘If being complicit is wanting to be a force for good and to make a positive impact, then I’m complicit,’ Trump said.
Trump insisted it was her role to make an impact behind the scenes.
‘I would say not to conflate lack of public denouncement with silence. I think there are multiple ways to have your voice heard,’ she said.
'I don’t think that it will make me a more effective advocate to constantly articulate every issue publicly where I disagree. That means that I’ll take hits from some critics who say that I should take to the street. But I think most of the impact I have, over time most people will not actually know about,' she continued.
Following Trump’s remarks, Johansson hit back, calling her comments ‘baffling’.
‘If you take a job as a public advocate then you must advocate, publicly,’ Johansson said, speaking on Thursday at the Women in the World festival in New York.
‘It’s such an old fashioned concept that to be a powerful woman you’re going to be seen as bitchy. Well screw that. It’s so old fashioned, and uninspired, and really cowardly. I was so disappointed in that interview.’
‘She said the biggest change she would make was behind closed doors. Well I thought to myself, that’s empowering,’ Johansson said sarcastically.
