John Travolta kissing Scarlett Johansson and her giving him side-eye was probably the most awkward picture from the Oscars - OK scratch that, the entire awards season in the last ten years - but now the actress has come out and spoken about it for the first time. To give us a bit of an idea what it was like actually being involved in something that... well, awkward. And apparently, it wasn't awkward at all!Goddamn picture not painting a thousand words.

Scar-Jo told Associated Press that she hadn't 'seen John in some years and it is always a pleasure to be greeted by him,' before going on to add: 'The image that is circulating is an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was very sweet and totally welcome. That still photo does not reflect what preceded and followed if you see the moment live.'

Ah, now we're starting to feel bad for John - especially when she states firmly that 'there is nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta.'

The guys was probably desperately trying to claw his image back after the last Oscars when he called Idina Menzel 'hoffly grobblebottle' (alright, 'Adele Dazeem') - so he poked some fun at himself - going on stage with Idina so she could mispronounced his name this year, which he responded to caressing her face a bit. Unfortunately the face-caressing also looked creepy on a still camera, but Idina didn't appear too bothered as she tweeted: 'Surprise! That was so much fun. Thank you John Travolta for being a good sport. What an honor to be invited again. #lifeisgood.' rather than 'GAH THAT MAN TOUCHED MY FACE' #lifeisgross'. And it was apparently all rehearsed. He also probably tried to appear really fun and good natured and friendly with everyone, which sadly came off as him trying to kiss Scarlett Johansson in horribly awkward fashion.

Just another reminder that you can't judge anything on the basis of a still photo. Can you imagine if someone based their entire assessment of your personality on one randomly selected Facebook picture? You'd probably be in all kinds of trouble.
