Comedian Sarah Silverman and actor boyfriend Michael Sheen have broken up after over three years together. The SNL regular announced the news in typically tongue-in-cheek fashion on Twitter, highlighting the fact that the pair are still friends.
‘The great Michael Sheen and I consciously uncoupled over Christmas,’ she wrote, referencing the language famously used by Gwyneth Paltrow during her split from Chris Martin. ‘I mean, not ‘over Christmas’. Like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight. We just live in different countries and it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so you stop asking, ‘How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?’’
The couple have been dating since 2014, with Silverman based in Los Angeles and Sheen living in Wales, where he is from. Speaking to her ex-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel in June, she explained the difficulties of long distance for them, saying that: ‘We just long for each other and we see each other and love each other.’
Sheen was previously in a relationship with actress Kate Beckinsale from 1995 to 2003, with the two sharing a daughter Lily, who was born in 1999. After splitting in 2003, Beckinsale went on to marry Len Wiseman, but they have remained close friends. He has also been linked to Rachel McAdams, who he met on the set of Paris Je T’aime.
