Sarah Jessica Parker is adding a new gig to her already-pretty-packed C.V., after signing a contract with Hogarth publishing to run her own literary imprint. *And it's called SJP, naturally. *
Under the Hogarth umbrella (the iconic publishing house founded in 1917 by Virginia and Leonard Woolf) Sarah Jessica will take on the role of editorial director at SJP and will be responsible for finding, editing, and marketing four new novels each year.
“I have always loved to read for the same reason I love to act,’ Sarah Jessica told The New York Times, “which is that other people’s stories are more interesting to me than my own.”
In accepting the job (Hogarth head Molly Stern reportedly hired her over dinner) the actress, currently starring in HBO’s Divorce, is edging ever-closer to a case of life imitating art. But while her Sex And The City character Carrie Bradshaw was a famous author and columnist, SJP has never actually released any books herself - surely her memoir would be a guaranteed best-seller?
With this latest announcement, plus the reveal of her new line of little black dresses last week, it seems that Sarah Jessica is more keen than ever to take on new projects and try some new career moves, after 40 years in the film and television industries.
We look forward to seeing which new authors she'll throw a spotlight on and expect to see those famous initials on the spines in our bookcase soon…
