Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has defended her friend Taylor Swift after a tabloid implied that the singer has had plastic surgery, making an important point about the media’s never-ending dissection of women and their looks in the process.

After Life&Style tweeted that the ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ singer was ‘sparking plastic surgery rumours,’ Sarah was quick to call out the publication for its comments, writing: ‘CAN YOU F—KING STOP?!?! Let’s empower women instead of judging their looks. There’s more to us than that. Guess you can’t teach stupid…’ Mic drop, please.

Sarah’s tweet comes just a week after the same outlet posted an article questioning whether she herself had gone under the knife. The star, who has previously spoken out about her experiences with kidney dysplasia and her subsequent fluctuations in weight, responded by describing the piece as ‘ridiculous and degrading,’ before following up with a longer statement on the same subject.

‘I have had the worst medical year of my life and to create an entire article surrounding the question of if I’ve had plastic surgery is the MOST insulting thing,’ she wrote. ‘Adding insult to injury. You have NO IDEA what I have been through. And I have somewhat addressed these rumours already. People like you are the reason why young girls feel the need to alter their face. MY face has been altered by LIFE SAVING medication. Take your “journalism” and use it for some good. FOR ONCE.’

Earlier this year, the actress posted a series of tweets in which she opened up about the hurtful comments about her body that she receives on Instagram. She revealed that she is regularly accused of ‘promoting anorexia,’ even though her medical condition has ‘put [her] in a place where [she is] not in control of what [her] body looks like.’

‘I’m a 26 year old woman who goes through more than you could even imagine on a daily basis… Love and positivity is what we need most,’ she concluded.
