Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan has just landed another starring role, taking the lead in Hozier’s powerful new music video for ‘Cherry Wine.’
Released to coincide with Valentine’s Day, the Irish singer-songwriter’s latest video has a poignant message about domestic violence, highlighting how the dynamics of an abusive relationship can be difficult to spot from the outside.
Saoirse, who has received a clutch of high profile awards nominations for her performance in Brooklyn, stars opposite Game of Thrones actor Moe Dunford as one half of a seemingly happy and affectionate couple. As the video progresses, though, clips of loving moments are interspersed with poignant scenes showing the actress removing her make-up to reveal a black eye.
‘Domestic violence is an on-going issue in our society, the statistics of which are shocking and the effects of which damage whole families, communities and span generations,’ Hozier explained. ‘With the song ‘Cherry Wine,’ I tried to get across the difficulty of coming to terms with an facing up to domestic violence and the dynamic of an abusive relationship.’
All proceeds from the song will go to charities supporting victims of domestic abuse around the world.
